ABOUT ME

Russell Phillips

Time…

It’s the fabric of life…

It’s the number one commodity that we possess, and yet so many of us take it for granted.

At the age of 16, I decided to try drugs for the first time. It was a decision that would forever alter the course of my life. Over the next 18 years, my life would continue to spiral out of control, until ultimately, in 2014, I was sentenced to 10 years in prison for distributing cocaine. I spent my time reading and writing, using books and words as a way to free my mind from the despair that surrounded me – gradually pulling myself out of the drug infested life that led me to prison and kept me from reaching my full potential. My story has become an inspiration to many because I dared to dream beyond those prison walls, and beyond the stigma of addiction; not allowing my past or what others thought of me to define me; and because I have the courage to share my story, unfiltered.

My work in the community has gotten me recognition across numerous outlets, including front page articles and news stations. I use these platforms to speak on the power of hope and change, as well as the unlimited potential that we possess as human beings. I share my story with the hopes of people understanding how precious life truly is…and the importance of this thing we call time.

Rising Above

It’s no secret the devastation that drugs have plagued on our lives, our families, and our communities. Many people who struggle with addiction often see no way out. From using drugs to heartbreak and jail, and everything in between, the redundant cycle that addiction causes can feel overwhelming, leaving those struggling as well as those who love them feeling hopeless. After being addicted to drugs for 18 years, I know all too well the destruction they can cause, as well as the emotional toll it takes on those who love us. I share my journey, and the things that played a role in my transformation, and the possibilities for others to do the same, along with the following issues:

  • Overcoming Adversity
  • Picking Up The Pieces
  • Substance Abuse Awareness
  • Choice Making And Goal Setting
  • Life After Addiction

Finding Your Purpose

Many people have the perception that your biography equals your destiny. They think that because that’s who you used to be that that’s who you’ll always be…but that perception is wrong. As human beings, we’re truly only limited by the restrictions that we place on ourselves and in our minds. The fear of failure alone will often keep many people from even attempting to pursue their dreams, often leaving them living an unfulfilled and unsatisfying life. It’s only when we believe in ourselves that we can begin taking the proper steps to turn our dreams into reality. In addition to the topics mentioned above, I also cover the following:

  • Staying Focused
  • Leadership And Empowerment
  • Finding Your Purpose
  • Unlocking your full potential
  • Chasing Your Dreams
